Monday 18th September // Brighton based producer Greencyde last week officially released his debut EP ‘Sun Shines Through‘ on hometown record label Horizon Recordings. Over the coming weeks, Insight Music, Greencyde and Horizon Recordings will be working together to showcase the compositional skill set of the up and coming producer as well as their love and respect for the underground electronica scene.
Tonight we have a very special review of the 3 track EP which is now available to purchase and stream on all well known digital outlets. Show your support by purchasing your copy here.
Track 1 // Sun Shines Through (feat. Ashley Rose)
The opening track to this EP is nothing short of majestic. The 7 minute long composition is heavily influenced by a classic dub rhythm with a warm comforting bassline and angelic vocals by Ashley Rose. The piece is really well layered, with a very atmospheric backing that really captures the space and mix the producer was intending to replicate. The droning sound of a distant synth and the echoing of the ghostly vocals makes for a very well executed piece of atmospheric ambience, beautifully mixed with a classic dub rhythm.
Track 2 // Dark Water
My personal favourite off the EP for sure, the atmospheric design and calming influence of the melodic synthesizer certainly hits a note with me. The emotion from this track in particular is very calming, but the garage rhythm of the percussion certainly adds drama to the emotional soundscape this track builds. Once again, the ghost like vocals add yet another layer of feeling to the track, really enforcing those Future Garage influences which are so apparent across the release.
Track 3 // Never
The EP finale carries on the emotion from tracks 1 and 2, creating an atmospheric and distant soundscape with a combination of pure and pitched vocal chops flowing in and out of the track. The deep yet subtle bass line again adds a dimension of space, accompanied by a future garage rhythm and a distant synthesizer pad that really pieces the track together.
The EP overall carries great direction and features some beautifully influenced musical genres from the producers upbringing. You can support the artist by purchasing the EP on iTunes, Juno and Bandcamp or streaming the EP here on Spotify.
