Insight Interview: Fallen Beats

We’re excited to share with you this Insight Interview featuring Romanian producer Fallen Beats.

After working with the artist on their debut Insight single release ‘Don’t Stay‘, today we share a few words from the artist and discover a little more about their musical background. 

 

Please tell us about yourself in a few words (who you are, where you’re from, what you do etc.)

Well firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Andrei Negru, I’m a 17 year old music producer from Bucharest, Romania and write music under the alias Fallen Beats. Probably the one thing that I enjoy doing everyday is making music when I get home from school. I think that a day that I do not improve the music I make is a wasted day.

What’s your earliest memory of writing/producing music and how has that developed over the years?

This takes me way back man… I always enjoyed listening to electronic/ambient music. I was maybe 11 or 12 when I opened Fl Studio on my dad’s PC, and from the start, I enjoyed making beats and messing around. After I started to take it more seriously, I went and got FL on my own laptop and I took that as a job. I got into future garage when I found Sibewest on soundcloud. Since then, I only listen to ambient/future garage music, and I’m glad that it is like this.

All of the time I get asked why is my music so sad and moody. The thing is that I got used to these type of feels and I enjoy listening to this type of music because it suits me better, upbeat and happy musical pieces are good, but I prefer melancholic and dark type of tunes. Here in Romania, the music that I make is very new, no one quite does what I do, I try to merge ambient and uk garage and chillout into one big pile. So with all of that, I hope I can deliver the same energy that I put into my music, I always pour all of my emotions and feels into my work.

All musicians have their own unique take on approaching a new track, but what approach suits you best?

When making a new track, the first thing that I do is search for some vocals, I always do that. But the second thing which always puts me down, is my mood. If I’m in a gloomy mood, I won’t be able to be as persistent as I am most of the time.

Could we have a rundown of your current studio setup?

I do my music on my PC, and the speakers that I use are some Kurzweil KS-40A. I also have an Akai LPK 25 midi keyboard, they get the job done for me.

Do you have a favorite piece of studio gear? Past or present?

Not as of now, maybe in the near future I will be able to upgrade to something better.

How would you describe your latest single release ‘Don’t Stay’ to those who haven’t heard your music before?

It is one of those tracks that you listen once, and you come back to listen again, definitely one of my best tracks out there, if you didn’t check it out as of now, I strongly advise you to do so 🙂

The past 12 months have been tough for a lot of musicians and artists alike to find inspiration. What’s helped you through a difficult year?

The things that always help me are my friends, they always give me feedback on my work, and feedback means a lot to me. Something else that motivated me are my fans, I love them with all of my heart, without them I wouldn’t be able to write this to you. The last thing that keeps me going is that making music is my dream since I started doing it and I want to make that dream come true.

Do you have a particular piece of music you’ve written that you’re most proud of?

Right now, I think “Terminal” and “Neon Sky” are the ones that I most proud of, I had a lot of fun making them. But my music is mainly based on moods and feels, so yeah, that’s my answer for this one.

How about collaborations, are there any artists out there you’d like to work with?

I’m open to anyone that wants to hop on a track with me, it would mean a lot for me, I don’t have a set of requirements for someone to do a collab with me, so if anyone is interested, I’m here and waiting. But probably the artists that I wish I could work with are Sibewest, Bucky, Vacant and Spaceouters, because I listen to these guys on a daily, without them the Future Garage community would not be the same.

What’s on the horizon for you musically?

I am currently working on a new EP, so stay tuned for that.

Any advice for those looking to start producing electronic music? Is there a particular setup or process that may help those artists?

I believe that anyone can do what I do, of course, if you are as dedicated as I am, the only thing that I can say about this is that with time and effort, and a bit of imagination, you can surely do it, you will just need a DAW and a laptop to start making music. If I could do it, you can as well, just believe on yourself, that’s what I always tell others.

Well, you should definitely check out “Terminal“, “Sorrow” from my latest album, and “Revolution“, if you’re into hardwave music. But I’m sure there are more tunes that you will like.
