Insight Interview: Future Culture

In the 9 years Insight has been active, there’s been plenty of exciting labels and promoters entering the scene, building the bricks of the community and setting the foundations for new and unique music.

In this Insight Interview, we talk with new-born future garage / wave label ‘Future Culture’ to discuss their first two label releases and their vision of the future music community.

Please tell us about yourself in a few words (who you are, where you’re from, what you do etc.)

Hi, thanks for the opportunity. I prefer the solitude of not knowing, but I’m based in the UK, just outside London and work within distribution.

What’s the origin of your label name Future Culture?

I’m a supporter of future music, that being future-garage, wave, witch house etc.. As years went past, my future became present and the music I enjoyed became my culture.

How long have you been active in the future music community?

Quite some time. I used to write and produce music that was often shared, but not so much any more. I much prefer listening to music now, but hope to one day start recording again.

“I’m a strong believer that this is visionary music for the future culture.”

Tell us a little about your first 2 label releases.

As a new label with very little following, having full support and trust from an artist felt quite difficult. I spoke to a few artists to see if we could collaborate on a label release, but it was sometimes difficult to receive a reply.

I’m so grateful to all those artists who reach out to me and let me know their thoughts. Both the heede and YEMA releases are fantastic pieces of future music that has helped Future Culture begin their journey. I am proud to be the official label supporter of both these releases.

I hope that in the future, we can work with more artists within the community and to release more inspiring future music.

What are your thoughts on the current state of future music?

The music I have surrounded myself with has become a cultural blessing. This genre of music I dearly love and will always be a supporter of. I believe the community as a whole is in a fantastic position with much support and engagement, but I understand the struggles of being successful within underground music.

What’s next for Future Culture?

Continued support of underground electronica and building our label catalogue. I believe in re-sharing the music I enjoy and will try to support creative music as much as possible.

There are some artists I would love to work with, such as Mannequin, Ṿ Ʌ Ẏ U, Ivoryghost, Flower Vandal and more. I hope to work with many artists in the future.

I also enjoy working with other promoters and labels and are grateful for channels like The Games We Play, Insight Music, Tall Dragon and Underground In Me who have all supported our first label releases. Working with these channels in the future would be fantastic.

What are three singles you would recommend we definitely check out?

Mannequin // 419

Antent x Affectwave // Far Away From Me

Nare // Freedom
