Insight Interview: Tremolo

Emerging from the quiet landscapes of Norway, Tremolo has steadily carved out a distinct voice in ambient and future garage.

With multiple releases on the Insight label and a string of collaborations across its roster, he’s built a reputation for lush sound design and emotive depth.

Rooted in the spirits of artists like vesky and Owsey, Tremolo builds immersive pieces that unfold gradually, inviting listeners into drifting dreamscapes and cinematic spaces. With a new release on the horizon, this interview traces his path, influences, and the stories that resonate beneath the surface of his sound.

Can you share a bit about your journey as a music producer and how you came to specialise in Ambient, Downtempo, and Future Garage music?

I discovered a producer called Direct back in 2015… I was never really interested in producing myself until 2022 when I came across vesky. I became deeply obsessed… I studied tutorials on how to make future garage, and then found even more tutorials from other brilliant future garage artists that helped me grow, and still do!

What inspired your alias and does it hold any significance to your musical journey?

There’s nothing really interesting… I saw the word Tremolo somewhere, thought it sounded cool, so why not use it?

How would you describe your artistic process when creating music? Are there any specific themes or emotions you aim to convey, especially in your current release?

No matter what I’m working on, I always want my music to be evocative. I want to tell a story through sound and build a world within my songs. My goal is for listeners to get lost in the music, immersing themselves in the atmosphere.

What draws you to the genres of Ambient, Downtempo, Future Garage?

It’s the combination of storytelling and music… Atmospheric, immersive music creates a feeling that can be difficult to describe.

Could you walk us through your studio setup and any favourite gear or software?

My setup is ridiculously simple and boring… Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro headphones and a FiiO K5 Pro, with FL Studio on my gaming PC bought in 2018!

We’re excited about your upcoming music. What can listeners expect in terms of themes, soundscapes, or collaborations?

You can expect more of the same! I have multiple projects in the works with Logic23, a couple with Arda Leen, an almost finished song with awway, and a LOT more with other artists.

The EP was released on Friday 4th July, in which you can listen on your preferred streaming/download platform here.

How does this release differ from your previous work, if at all?

I’d like to think it’s more refined than my previous work, but in terms of musical style I like to stay consistent!

Who or what are some of your biggest musical influences?

vesky is THE reason I began producing… Owsey’s narrative-driven music and tutorials helped me…
Others include Shah & Bucky (who I collaborated with), Direct, AK, Liam Thomas, Zyphyr, Aurai, 4lienetic, fugue, Sublab, and of course Logic23.

Are there any particular experiences or places that inspire your music?

Listening to my favourite artists, video games and general travel inspires me a lot!

What are your goals or aspirations as an artist moving forward?

Keep improving and make music that stays true to my vision. Career wise, I want to make a living in the music industry. My biggest dream is to become a video game composer!

Are there any particular projects or collaborations you dream of pursuing?

Composing for video games or entertainment media—dream projects would be The Witcher or Cyberpunk. Collaboration-wise, working with vesky would be a dream, and also Owsey!

Anything else you’d like to share with listeners or aspiring producers?

A huge thanks to everyone listening—just reached 1 million total plays on Spotify which is incredible. For aspiring producers: perseverance is key. Stay inspired, figure out why you’re passionate about music and what your goal is.
