Known for their chilled euphoric sound, Russian producer Whitewildbear has achieved great independent success through their music. In this Insight Interview, we find out more about the aspiring music producer.
Please tell us about yourself in a few words (who you are, where you’re from, what you do etc.)
My name is Artur Nickitin. I am from the small-closed city of Novouralsk, Russia. I love nature, photos, music and films. I am a private person.
What is the story behind the origin of your artist name Whitewildbear?
The origin of the stage name is connected with my tattoo, the image of a bear.
Please describe your music for us.
Everything that I experience shows through my music.
Do you try to express something tangible through your music? A particular mood or feeling perhaps?
More light, kindness, love and humanity.
Who are your major musical influences?
The creativity of German DJ ATB made a primary influence on me.
How long have you been producing, can you describe the moment when you first realised you wanted to make music?
Once I was visited by a strong sense of gravity towards music and had a desire to begin composing. I remember those days, when I first installed FL Studio, from that moment everything began. I had a year off, but my desire to write music brought me again. I tried various musical styles such as hip hop, making beats… Later, I switched to trance music, in which the basis for me was the works of ATB. Through his music, I found my own style.
Tell us a little about your current studio setup (equipment, software etc..)
I don’t have anything special in regards to technology, just an M-AUDIO Key Rig 49 MIDI keyboard and Beyerdynamic 770 headphones, but my cat bit through the wire… Now I work with old Sennheiser HD215 headphones, and I’m learning to create music in Fl Studio 20.
What is your approach to starting a track, is there a routine you set for yourself?
Primarily I need a special condition. It’s like something’s kindled inside. This condition alone is not always enough. I try to strengthen it more with emotion, which might be movies, photos, music.
How has your music evolved since you first began producing?
I listened to a lot of other artists, and I’ve learned to improve myself by listening to them.
As an artist, what would you say is your ultimate goal?
To make this world a better place.
Any particular artists you’d like to work with?
I would not like to make a guess. If possible, you will definitely hear.
What’s on the horizon for you musically?
Time will tell.
Best advice you were given in regards to having a music career?
Sometimes I don’t have the mood to make music, and one good friend of mine told me such words. “Appetite comes with eating”.
Any advice you can share with those just starting out?
Find an artist who is close to you in spirit and search for yourself through their music. Experiment with different styles.
And finally, are there any artists that are relatively unknown that you’d like people to know about?
FREESO, Ponkie, Tower Block Dreams, Zyphur, Tondchee, HANDS,
