We’re proud to share the words from Tom Hartney in light of their recent collaborative 2-track EP release with Pensive.

Rest, I’m With You/Children Of Light‘ is an immersive 2-track ambient EP from Australian producers Tom Hartney and Pensive. Known for their ethereal pallet of ambient textures and piano compositions, Tom shares his own words on the musical journey of the EP, and the result of their 2-year work in progress.

“I think we’re a good team and I’m excited for more music with him in times to come.” – Tom Hartney

This release has been a long time coming for Pensive and I.

We started writing (and mostly finished) the songs about 2 years ago, but due to circumstances in our lives, finishing the project was put on hold indefinitely. Slowly but surely, and bit by bit, things aligned and we were eventually able to team up again and piece together the finishing touches of what would become this release.

“Pensive has a distinctive textural palette and in my opinion his sound and what he does creatively is incredibly astounding.”

As far as the music itself, because our influences started to change over the years, we wanted to create something more organic, something that focuses on taking you to the place we created and keeping you there. I recorded a lot of piano, and this was the basis for a lot of the ambient wall of sound you can hear in the two songs. I also asked my good friend and frequent instrumentalist on my music Finn Idriss Cooney to record viola for ‘Children of Light’, and he more than delivered! Pensive has a distinctive textural palette and in my opinion his sound and what he does creatively is incredibly astounding. I think we’re a good team and I’m excited for more music with him in times to come.

Overall we are very proud of the finished product, and I’m personally so happy and so excited for the world to hear what we have slowly been crafting over the past 2 years.
